The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) has launched Shoma (You) channel, dedicated to broadcasting productions by provincial TV channels. With the motto of “Channel for Iranian Nomads”, the channel was officially launched during a ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday morning. The national TV channel will focus on cultural and social programs in the form of animation, TV series, and telefilms produced by provincial TV channels for Iranians. The channel aims to boost religious values, rituals and cultures of different regions, as well as to establish closer relations among people from the various tribes in Iran. A pilot program about the channel has been broadcast since July 6. IRIB’s officials said that they were convinced to launch the channel due to numerous requests by viewers.
