The remains of the journalist Jean-Louis Hurst, defender of the Algerian cause during the National Liberation War, died Tuesday in France at age of 78, was repatriated Wednesday in Algiers. Historical figures, companions of the deceased as well as representatives of ministries of Mujahedeen, Interior and Foreign Affairs were present at the arrival of the remains in Houari Boumediene International Airport. Jean-Louis Hurst will be buried in the Christian cemetery of Diar Es Saada, Algiers, according to his wish. Born on 18 September 1935 in Nancy, the deceased was a member of the so-called "suitcase carriers" networks in support of the National Liberation Front (FLN) during the war of liberation. Known for his book "Le Deserteur" (the Deserters), a personal story he signs with per name "Maurienne", Jean-Louis Hurst joins again the Army after Algeria independence 1962 to complete his military service. He had participated in several voluntary actions in Kabylia and followed studies in History in Algiers University. Upon his return to France, he resumes teaching in Seine-Saint-Denis before working as journalist from 1972 in the daily Liberation.
