Reporters rarely expect to be part of the story they are covering, but for one Saudi-based journalist an amusingly apt situation saw him become just that.
Abdullah, a reporter on the show ‘Allah Ya'tik Kheirha,’ hit the busy roads of Riyadh to report on the large numbers of traffic violations in the city.
After spending time speaking to motorists for the show about why they park illegally, he was surprised to learn that he himself had been given a ticket for parking his vehicle incorrectly.
A clip from the program showed Abdullah talking to a traffic cop toward the end of his report.
The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on the show’s presenter, Youssef Al-Jarrah, who found the situation amusing and told viewers: “A message to Abdullah from me and everyone on the show: You deserve the ticket!”
The report revealed that most tickets were given for parking illegally. Some of those who appeared in the piece justified their decision to break the law by claiming they were in a hurry or simply not being able to find suitable parking spaces.
‘Allah Ya'tik Kheirha’ is broadcast on Al-Ekhbariya TV on Fridays and promotes awareness about road safety.
