Egyptian television presenter Doaa Amer has denied any allegiance to the country’s Muslim Brotherhood. "Wearing a veil doesn't necessarily mean that I am from the Muslim Brotherhood,” she told Arabstoday in an exclusive interview. “I don’t belong to any political or religious party,” Amer added, expressing her sadness over recent events in crisis-stricken Egypt. “Egyptians are harming Egyptians,” she said, “and that is extremely sad.” Referring to her recent departure from the al-Hayat channel, Amer said: “I was surprised at the exotic rumors about my health and pregnancy, but thank God I have been blessed with my son Hamzh, who is my world.” Amer confirmed “private reasons” had led her to leave al-Hayat, but announced she would be making a comeback at Egypt’s al-Nahar channel because she felt comfortable there and was attracted by the prospect of presenting her popular Today programme there. The programme aims to teach young girls employment skills and experience, such as fashion design, to help eradicate unemployment in the country. “It’s a kind of social programme for all the aspects of our lives,” Amer said. “I adore these types of shows.”
