The two sides discussed the cooperation ties between Emirates News Agency (WAM) and Reuters in the areas of news, technical training, exchange of photos, telecast of TV news, enhancement of information technology system and ways of using advanced technologies, as well as social and multimedia network. They agreed on boosting the media cooperation between the two agencies, especially in the areas of films and TV photos. The Reuters delegation were briefed about the UAE achievements in the field of media: there are 15 TV channels, 24 radio stations, 9 Arabic language daily papers, 7 daily papers in English language, in addition to WAM, a national news agency, tens of weekly and monthly magazines andperiodicals. The guests were also briefed about the role of NMC and the progress in the media sector. The two sides also discussed how best the news agencies could benefit from the social media network. Present were Gregory Beitchman, Global Editor, Reuters News Agency, Samir Sabbah, VP News Agency – Europe, Middle East & Africa at Thomson Reuters, John Carrozza, Head of Finance (CFO) at Thomson Reuters Media and a number of NMC officials. The President of Reuters Media lauded the technical and professional standards of WAM, expressing her hopes to bolster the relations between the two sides in the fields of news and media cooperation. WAM has introduced well known social media network: Facebook and twitter to allow millions of visitors view WAM page and benefit from flow of news, photos and TV Photos telecast by WAM round the clock to highlight the political, economic, cultural, tourist and social events in the UAE. WAM is the first Arab news agency to send the photos to the television satellite channels inside and outside the UAE by the optical fibre technique.
