The Africa-Arab Summit's press centre, which operates under the Information Ministry, took visiting journalists on a cultural tour of Kuwait, including Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah and Kuwait Sea Heritage Village. The visits to the two sites, located on the prominent Gulf Road, were made separately in the morning and the late afternoon. Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah, a museum and a cultural organisation dedicated to Islamic art and antiquities, possesses a collection regarded one of the most comprehensive in the world. Since its inception in 1983, DAI has grown from a single focus organisation created to manage the loan of the prestigious Al-Sabah Collection of art from the Islamic world to the State of Kuwait to become an internationally recognised cultural organisation. As such, the collection preserves and presents all aspects of art, including extraordinary manuscripts, scientific instruments, carpets, jewellery, ceramic, metalwork, wood and glass. It now includes more than 30,000 pieces from the full geographic and chronological range of the Islamic world, from Spain to China, from the 7th-19th centuries AD. Kuwait Sea Heritage Village is a historic village that depicts life in pre-oil discovery Kuwait. It includes a traditionally-built gathering place (Diwaniya) for fishermen, shops selling handmade wooden, Sadu material and metal crafts, along with clothing, and hand-pushed traditional non-mechanical rides for the children
