His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award is scheduled to hold on Monday its fifth dialogue assembly, themed "electronic piracy, challenges, security, applications and legislation," grouping senior officials and elite experts.
Dr. Abdullah Shehab, the coordinator of the fifth dialogue council, said in a statement on Sunday that participants in the meeting would discuss e-piracy targeting government websites and networks, means of securing data of individuals, key installations, as well as those belonging to the banks and major establishments.
Dr. Shehab said 30 percent of e-piracy in the world target the Arabian Gulf states, noting that the Gulf countries might sustain losses, projected at USD three trillion by 2020 due to these illegal acts.
Statistics show spread of online piracy, breaching security systems, targeting institutions and individuals.
Cyber pirates also target persons' banking accounts, many of whom being unaware that their personal computers and personal e-mails have been penetrated.
He indicated that the conferees, during the planned meeting, would examine this menace, table recommendations intended to aid decision makers to take precautionary measures against e-piracy, in addition to discussing means of enhancing protection and effectiveness of legislations in the face of "this phenomenon." The Award seeks, through the holding of these annual sessions, to promote informatics awareness for users of the internet, smart phones and other identical gadgets.
