Aljazeera chief correspondent Mahmoud Hussien works for Nile News channel, Head of the News Sector at the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Khaled Mehanna revealed on Sunday.
If Aljazeera journalist is convicted, he will be dismissed from his position at the Egyptian television, Mehanna said in statements to MENA.
The reporter has made a request to renew his annual leave but it was rejected, Mehanna added, noting that he was arrested while submitting the request at the headquarters of the state-run ERTU.
Mahmoud Hussein, the director of Al Jazeera's correspondents, is accused of fomenting sedition and inciting violence against state institutions in Egypt.
