German news agency dpa saw significant rise in profit and sales in 2013, the company announced Tuesday.
Germany's largest news agency posted a profit of 910,000 euros (1.24 million dollars) in 2013, compared to 684,000 euros in 2012. Sales reached 87.2 million, a rise of 6.3 per cent on the prior year.
The hefty increase were due primarily to the delivery of content from the US-based Associated Press news agency to customers in the German-speaking world.
At the shareholders meeting, the supervisory board elected David Brandstaetter as its new chairman, while at the same time confirming Laurent Fischer and Valdo Lehari Jr as deputy chairmen.
Brandstaetter follows in the footsteps of Karlheinz Roethemeier, who led the board for 18 years and now takes up the post of honorary chairman of the supervisory board.
"The close and fruitful cooperation of dpa's board, management, editorial leadership and staff will continue seamlessly to keep the company successfully on the course on which it is already set," Brandstaetter said.
Roethmeier added that he was leaving dpa "with a good feeling," saying the "highly professional and customer-oriented" company was on a good footing for the future.
