Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Araby welcomed on Tuesday the Egyptian-brokered 72-hour ceasefire truce, which was accepted by Israel and the Palestinians earlier today.
It is important that the UN Security Council (UNSC) takes a role in complying Israel to implement the truce without any procrastination, Al-Araby said in a statement.
The statement also assured that the League is continuing its efforts with the UN in Geneva and New York to provide international protection for the Palestinian people and lands, as well as working on bringing to justice all those responsible for the crimes they committed against the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, Russia welcomed today the announced Egyptian-brokered truce in Gaza and called for full commitment to it, stressing importance of investing the Egyptian initiative in order to attain a long-term truce between the Israeli and Palestinian sides, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Moscow also expressed hopes that the lull would lead to resumption of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations on issues of the final situation that is based on international legitimacy.
