Volvo’s tuning and motorsport arm Heico Sportive announced its plans to reveal a biofuel-powered Volvo V40 racer they just made at the Leipzig International Motor Show and field it at the 2013 Nurburgring 24 Hours race. Based on the new V40 hatchback, this race car is a showcase of the tuner’s capabilities in engineering and aftermarket parts. The car gets body, engine and chassis upgrades. Body-wise, the V40 race car features a massive front splitter linked to the extended wheel arches, new side skirts, a big racing wing at the back as well as a diffuser. It also gets new tailpipes, belonging to a high performance exhaust system that is part of the engine upgrade program. The engine in this car is a 2.0 liter five-cylinder turbo which in its standard form makes about 180 hp. But when Heico is through with it, this green powertrain makes no less than 300 horsepower. It is a race car after all. Other modifications to cope with the added performance include stiffened chassis and sport suspension, as well as high performance brakes. Heico says most of the parts on this car will soon become available for the road-going V40 as well, albeit not in the same racing state, but close.
