German carmaker BMW has announced an option on its M-series of vehicles that displays data on the steering wheel. The BMW M Performance Steering Wheel features a small OLED information display at the wheel's 12 o'clock position flanked on each side by LEDs that illuminate in green up to the engine's redline, where it then shows red. The information display has three modes: EfficientDynamics, Sport and Race. EfficientDynamics mode streams average fuel consumption, speed, oil temperature and water temperature. Sport mode offers up lateral G-force data, and the LED strips provide details on when the driver should shift. Race mode offers the ability to track lap times for racing. The BMW M Performance Steering Wheel is a $1,700 option, TG Daily reported Tuesday.
