HYbrid4 technology is based on the combined use of the best technologies developed by Peugeot’s engineers: diesel engine, electric motor, second-generation Stop & Start and an electronically-controlled sequential manual gearbox. Peugeot’s choice of the diesel hybrid demonstrates that it is possible to combine uncompromising environmental demands with driving sensations until now not available in a hybrid vehicle. HYbrid4 technology combines a diesel engine and an electric motor that operate alternatively or simultaneously: - The diesel engine is placed at the front and drives the front wheels. It works optimally for journeys on main roads and motorways. - The electric motor is placed at the rear and drives the rear wheels. It takes over from the engine in its phase of lower yield, when starting, traveling at low speed or deceleration. When braking, it recharges the batteries located between the rear wheels. Its independent use is ideal in urban journeys, where it is used to drive in zero emission mode. The passage of the diesel engine to the electric motor is done automatically, thanks to STOP & START: an alternator that shuts down and restarts the engine automatically (at a red light or a stop for example).
