More rains are expected to continue in Sri Lanka for the next few days from a cyclonic storm which is located 1,100 km northeast of Kankasanthurai in the island's north, the Meteorology Department said Saturday.
While the cyclonic storm - Roanu was moving further away from the island, the Meteorology Department said strong windy conditions and spells of showers would continue across the country and the coastal areas.
The department further warned the public to exercise caution in the coming few days.
Strong wind and heavy rains have lashed the island since Saturday night, causing heavy flooding and massive landslides in many districts.
More than 60 people have been killed and hundreds of others went missing from the extreme weather. Rescue teams are continuing with efforts to evacuate families residing in flood prone areas.
The government has warned people residing in low lying areas to evacuate if the water levels rise further owing to heavy rains.
