Nokia has announced its mapping services for iOS devices, Here Maps, a free app that provides a host of features for travelers. Nokia's map app for iPhones and iPads utilizes data from Navteq, which provides its information to the majority of in-car navigation systems, CNET reported Tuesday. In addition to the usual driving directions, the app also offers step-by-step, voice-guided navigation for travelers on foot. In a bow to social media, Here Maps users can create and save maps and points of interest that can be accessed and shared by others. A cloud-based platform, Here Maps' goal is "creating more personal maps that change how we navigate our lives," Nokia head Stephen Elop said. Though having its debut on iOS 6 devices, Here Maps will be offered to most mobile operating systems in the coming months, with a software development kit for Android set for the first quarter of 2013.
