The State of Qatar has welcomed the increasing role of nuclear science and technology for peaceful applications, particularly in the areas of food and agriculture, human and animal health, environment and water . It considers it a matter of hope, especially as the United Nations prepares this year the sustainable development plan for after 2015.
This came in a statement delivered today by Qatar's Ambassador to Austria and its Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) and the international organizations Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri under item ( review of nuclear technologies for 2015) within the IAEA Board of Governors spring session 2015.
HE Ambassador Al Mansouri called for maximum use of nuclear applications in sustainable development as that all nations of the world need this application for development purposes.
He also called for the deployment of these technologies and applications, especially in developing countries that need more support and greater international cooperation, and that such techniques and applications should be an integral part of the programme of the United Nations for sustainable development beyond 2015. He stressed the need for cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the concerned United Nations organs and agencies in order to achieve the widest possible use of these techniques and develop them for the benefit of all mankind.
