Employees of Masdar, Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, will be flying the flag for the UAE as a pioneer of clean energy and sustainable development at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2016 from January 16-23.
Dr Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, received the company's staff at Masdar City yesterday to present on the final preparations for next month's landmark event – the fourth annual edition of ADSW, now the region's largest gathering on sustainability, and the first global platform to further advance the adoption of renewable energy and sustainable development following the historic agreement on climate change secured by world leaders in Paris recently.
Masdar has hosted the annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week since the inaugural event in 2013.
Dr Belhoul said that ADSW was an exciting opportunity to restate the economic case for renewable energy, increasingly the energy source of choice for countries seeking to address growing domestic power demand.
"ADSW is the ideal platform to showcase the leadership of the UAE in promoting sustainable development and clean energy, and the track record of Masdar, one of the very few organisations active at every point of sustainability value chain," he said.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability starts with the General Assembly of the International Renewable Agency (IRENA) on January 16-17, and is followed by the formal opening ceremony of ADSW and the co-located World Future Energy Summit, International Water Summit and EcoWASTE exhibition from January 18-21. The weekends with The Masdar Festival @ Masdar City on January 22-23.
The 2015 edition of ADSW received more than 33,000 attendees from 170 countries, including heads of state, business decision makers, thought leaders, global non-governmental organisations, academics and investors.
