Within the urban expansion the State witnesses, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" carries out its strategic plan for electricity network upgrade. KAHRAMAA has constructed new substations and upgraded another to ensure service sustainability.
KAHRAMAA said in a press release that many projects have been commissioned where new substations joined service. This includes new Doha, Khuraitiyat south, Central market B, Doha Industrial F, and Mesaimeer North 11 / 66 kv substations. Abu Sedra, and Industrial area super substations ( 220/132/66/11 kv ) have been commissioned and upgraded.
KAHRAMAA has expanded several substations including Wajba Super 400 kv, Lusail LDS2 400 kv, QU north 132 / 11 kv, and Garian Genyhat super 220 / 132 / 11 kv. Gharafa substation 132 / 66 / 11 kv will be completed soon.
KAHRAMAA has constructed strategic substations including Mesherib downtown Doha 1, and Sheraton parking substation which will join service before the next summer. Sheraton parking substation is constructed underground as per the latest safety specifications. It copes with the world standards as it is equipped with the latest monitoring and control systems. New substations has been commissioned this year including Wajba 66/11 kv, and Abu Hamour super 220 / 66 / 11 kv.
As well, KAHRAMAA dismantles all overhead lines 132 kv between Doha South Super towards the Industrial Area and Sailiya. All overhead lines 132 and 220 kv from Abu Fontas generation station to Al-Wakra, Mesaied, and Doha South across Al-Wakra street will be dismantled. The project goes in coordination with other authorities including Ashghal, Qatar Rail, and Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. It goes in line with FIFA 2022 projects. The project has started at the beginning of January 2015. Work has started to dismantle the OHL to Al-Wakra from Abo Fontas station to Mesaied A to be replaced with ground cables. Al- Thumama substation will be commissioned and all OHL at Al-Wakra street will be dismantled by the next summer. These projects copes with KAHRAMAA strategy and urban expansion requirements 2030.
In 2014, KAHRAMAA managed to keep the high quality performance indicators of the electricity network. It comes within KAHRAMAA mission of Providing High Quality and Sustainable Electricity and Water for Better Living in Qatar, the press release said.
The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is a state owned corporation funded fully by the State of Qatar. KAHRAMAA has the privilege of being the sole transmission and distribution system owner and operator (TDSOO) for the electricity and water sector in Qatar.
