Buildings, land transportation and industry consume a combined 90% of total energy consumption in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to official statistics released by the Saudi Center for Energy Efficiency.
Saudi Press Agency, SPA, said the Saudi program for energy efficiency prepares and design a range of activities, consistent with the terms of reference of action aimed at rationalizing and raising the efficiency of consumption in these sectors.
‘’This growing consumption is a result of what the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia witnesses of rapid economic and population growth, during the past twenty years, which led to a rise in domestic energy consumption to very high rates, causing an increase in energy waste, which form an energy domestic consumption of 38 % of the total Saudi production of oil and gas products,’’ the center added.
Continued growth of this annual consumption rate of between 4-5% in the coming years, will double the current level by the year 2030, unless measures to rationalize, raise the efficiency of consumption and improve production efficiency, are taken and applied.
