The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has accomplished significant progress in terms of reduction of the foot-print environmental impact in the university premises as a result of enforcement of the university's electric power saving program in accordance with an agreement signed with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in 2008 which aims at conservation of the environment and optimization of usage of equipment and appliances in the university. The university was able to reduce its electricity and water consumption bill from BD 511,000 to BD 133,000 per annum. Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza praised the AGU for constructive cooperation and successfully saving consumption of electricity and water and curbing unnecessary electricity loads especially as this year has seen record high temperature and humidity and hence an unprecedented electric power consumption during this summer. AGU Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Abdulrahman Al-Awhali, praised the EWA for its support to the AGU which enabled the university to apply a gradual electric power savings program. He pointed out that this program shall include the King Abdullah Medical City created in the AGU to serve all GCC countries and also praised the EWA for the provision of its services in mega, strategic project. On the other hand, the EWA's CEO engineer Shaikh Nawaf bin Ebrahim Hamad Al Khalifa praised the AGU chancellor for his efforts and direct support to the power and water saving program in the AGU premises which reduced loads by more than 1,000 kilowatts thanks to bilateral cooperation between the AGU and the EWA.
