The Ministry of Interior, MoI, participated in last weekend's "Earth Hour 2016" event by turning off the lights in a number of its affiliated buildings. The ministry's participation in the event comes as part of the global campaign that aims to raise awareness about global warming, energy saving, and environmental protection.
The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, in coordination with the Environment Protection Society, participated in the event by shutting their lights off for an hour to mark the event.
Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, stressed that the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ is keen to participate in the event annually. He noted that the participation embodies the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s desire to apply the best green practices, preserve the environment, prevent pollution, and promote environmental performance nationwide.
"This participation highlights the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s leading role as a distinguished governmental entity that sets an example for other governmental institutes, especially in relation to social and environmental responsibilities," he added.
He noted that the event is a message to society to limit energy consumption, not as a possibility, but as a necessity, in order to preserve biological diversity and avoid the consequences of global warming, as well as to raise awareness in all segments of society.
He expressed gratitude to the Environment Friends Society for their participation with the Abu Dhabi Police to spread and promote environmental awareness and for their distinguished participation in the Earth Hour event.
The Directorate-General of Civil Defence participated by shutting off the lights in all civil defence centres for an hour as part of the global campaign.
Major-General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defence Commander-in-Chief at the MoI, reiterated the keenness of the Directorate-General of Civil Defence to adopt the best environmental solutions and green applications. This is to preserve a sustainable environment and promote the quality of life in the UAE.
