- A heavy storm struck Malta on Friday afernoon, diverting international flights to and from the islands.
Flight from Gatwick to Malta was diverted to Catania, Sicily due to the bad weather, while another flight from Frankfurt was diverted to Tunisia's capital Tunis, according to local reports. Friday's flights to Budapest, Brussels, Heathrow, Paris and Frankfurt were delayed until the storm subsides.
The heavy rain and thunder also disrupted preparations for two local towns' feasts.
The Malta Trade Fair issued a statement saying the fair would not open for safety reasons this evening due to the storm
