The 8th Water, Energy and Waste Management Conference kicked off on Monday at Fardous Hotel, organized by the State Ministry for Environmental Affairs in cooperation with Quality Group for Studies. During the conference, State Minister for Environmental Affairs Nazira Serkis pointed out that the current events have led to many negative repercussions on the environment, both direct and indirect, which requires exerting efforts to find solutions for them. Serkis asserted that the government is continuing to protect the environment, with the State Ministry working diligently in this regard, signing several cooperation agreements, carrying out activities to raise awareness, and coordinating with relevant authorities. In turn, Director General of Quality Group for Studies, Majed Sharaf, stressed the need for cooperation between the public and private sector and benefitting from civil society in conducting studies and finding solutions. The two-day conference will tackle the environmental issues resulting from the current events in Syria and means for dealing with them, particularly issues that affect health, economy and pollution levels in addition to the effects of the stalling of some of the State Ministry's projects due to the current situation.
