Group Sonatrach will launch in early next year a study for the construction of the first environment observation centre in Algeria, the director of Skikda's industrial zone ( 510 km east of Algiers) Abdelhafid Djemai told APS on Wednesday.
This centre will allow controlling gas emissions coming from the production units and reducing pollution impacts in the industrial zone, according to this official who added that the funds necessary to the centre building were allocated.
Sonatrach has tackled the problem of pollution reduction to ‘‘reassure the citizens and promote its image as a socially responsible company,’’ said Djemai, noting that the centre is expected to be operation by 2017.
Moreover, Sonatrach is working for several years to reduce gas emissions which pollute the atmosphere and the ozone layer, by removing the old units and setting up “environment-friendly” filters, the same official said.
