The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, SEWA, and the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, SNOC, have discussed ways to jointly promote innovation and sustainable development in the emirate.
This step aims to strengthen their strategic plans to preserve the environment, enhance Sharjah’s competitiveness and focus on the implementation of relevant research studies to apply the vision and guidance of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, received a delegation from SNOC, led by Hatem Mohammed Diab Al Mousa, CEO of the foundation.
During the meeting, they discussed joint efforts to realise Sharjah’s strategy and vision to achieve sustainable development and adopt alternative and renewable sources of energy.
Dr. Al Leem stated that they discussed several ideas and initiatives that aim to achieve sustainable development, environmental protection, and economic support and gain a balance between different sectors of the economy which will guarantee sustainability for future generations.
He added that SEWA has a clear strategy for the next phase and is currently implementing innovative solutions and creative ideas to overcome various challenges and contribute to an integrated strategy, as well as developing energy efficiency and productivity to ensure a qualitative leap in Sharjah’s economy, enhancing its competitiveness and sustainable growth and improving its performance in compliance with international standards.
He pointed out that SEWA has started the implementation of a specific strategy to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent during the next phase. It adopted and applied the United Nations standards and principles in the field of energy management and obtained the ISO 50001, the first Arab body to adopt and apply these principles.
Hatem Al-Musa said that SNOC is developing special strategies to promote optimal utilisation of energy, as well as encouraging innovation to develop sustainable measures that will make Sharjah a global centre for the green economy, and provide new opportunities in the energy sector.
