Advertising firms have been asked to remove diesel generators used to operate advert boards due to environmental hazards. In an order issued by the Dubai Municipality, Yousuf Abdullah, acting director of the Building Department of the municipality, said the departent will also send urgent messages to the companies asking them to apply for electricity meters for this purpose. “Diesel-powered generators pose a threat to the good condition of our environment. Moreover, these also distort the appearance of the city,” said Abdullah. The advertising companies are allowed to use electricity for the purpose and they would need to apply for electricity meters in this regard, he added. The companies can send their application through e-service system or by contacting through Buildings@dm.gov.ae. After examining their applications, the municipality shall issue the consent and send it to DEWA to fix the meters and set the connections.
