The Tunisian Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday night a state of emergency in the northwestern parts of the country hit by snow and rain falls in the recent day.
The bad weather and accumulated snow hampered traffic in, and isolated, the Governorate of Kasserine and other governorates, the Ministry's National Guard Dept. said in a televised statement. Meanwhile, the National Commission for the Prevention and Fight against Disasters enforced emergency measures to deal with the situation in the mountainous region and respond to the needs of stranded citizens.
Food and other assistance have been distributed to thousands of families in the governorates of Jendouba, Kef, Siliana and Kasserine, according to a statement by the Commission.
