Tartous Province is currently witnessing an increasing interest in new plants and fruits, especially kiwifruit, Dragon fruit and raspberries, along with the traditional kinds of plants with the aim of expanding their production and create a new income that compensates for the losses in the circus cultivation. The farmers aim at meeting the needs of a wide portion of consumers in addition to taking advantages of the areas which do not suit the citrus production. Head of the Production Department in the Province, Raafat Attallah, said that the new planted fruits are good if compared with the traditional kinds, adding that the volume of lands cultivated in these kinds reached 642.96 acres with annual production estimated at 198 tons.
