HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said that the Ministry has developed a strategic plan to preserve and protect the Qatari environment.
In remarks on the occasion of Qatar Environment Day, which is celebrated on February 26, HE the Minister pointed to the enactment of many laws and regulations that contribute to the preservation of the Qatari environment with all its components. He noted that dedicating a day for the Environment proves that the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is keen on preserving the Qatari environment and natural resources.
HE the Minister explained that the Ministry is implementing plans and programs aimed at enhancing plantation development and increasing the green areas in the, and thus contribute to the reduction of harmful substances resulting from production processes and of air pollution.
The Ministry also seeks, to adopt several environmental projects and programs related to the protection of the environment and the development of natural resources as well as ensuring environmental safety, he said.
He pointed out the that ministry has established a number of nature reserves to preserve endangered species of plants and animals; fish farming projects; agricultural projects to encourage local production. The Ministry has enacted laws to regulate hunting wild animals and birds and to protect fish stocks.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs in the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada said that the ministry is making all efforts to enhance environmental work in the State, and to support cooperation and partnerships between the public and private sectors, for raising environmental awareness.
