Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region, opened here yesterday the third phase of a new water desalination plant and the pipeline in Jeddah in the presence of Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jeddah. Addressing the ceremony, the Minister of Water and Electricity and Chairman of Board of Directors of Saline Water Conversion Corporation Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Hossein said that the Corporation's expenditures for water desalination projects have so far exceeded SR 100 billion and the Corporation's budget for the current fiscal year 1433/1434 AH amounted to SR 15 billion. He also disclosed that there are 27 water desalination plants (in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), producing three million cubic meters of water per day and about 5,000 megawatts of electricity.
