A specialized committee at the Municipality Council on Monday stressed the necessity of using new cooling systems for power saving.
Concluding a workshop on the environmental impact of cooling systems organized by the Council's Environmental Affair Committee, rapporteur Hassan Kamal said they had recommended the adoption of new systems based on saving energy, in official and residential buildings and shops.
He called for encouraging people to use the power-save systems, informing them about the benefits on the short and long terms. He said they had a positive effect on the environment, through lessening emissions.
The Committee also recommended encouraging the private sector to offer fresh ideas and techniques for saving energy and decreasing harms to the environment caused by the current air conditioning systems, Kamal said.
He added that such cooling system is applied in several world countries, and even in Kuwait's Al-Ahmadi City since the 1950s.
