Ambassador of Kosovo in Cairo Baqr Ismail voiced hope that Egypt could support his country's bid to win the membership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), highlighting the role of Egypt, which is the main destination of scholars, to garner support for his country.
In statements to MENA, Ismail asserted that Kosovo is a sovereign country which has a full authority over its territories, has the ability to establish relations with all world countries and is highly qualified for the UNESCO membership.
He also said his country is fully ready to bear the costs of its membership at the UN organizations.
He also said 112 countries, including Egypt, have recognized the right of Kosovo to join the UNESCO.
Ismail also said that relations between Kosovo and Egypt, after finishing its parliamentary elections, would witness a big leap in all domains, voicing hope over ending measures of establishing an Egyptian embassy in his country after Cairo recognized his country.
The Kosovo ambassador has met with a number of Azhar and Awqaf Ministry scholars and officials to coordinate efforts in the religious affairs.
Tirana filed a request in September for the UNESCO Executive Council to put Kosovo on the agenda of its October session. The request was backed by 44 other UNESCO member states out of a total of 195.
UNESCO’s general assembly is expected to vote on the issue in the first week of November.
