Minister of Town Planning and Environment, Dalila Boudjemaâ, announced Wednesday the “forthcoming” creation of a national agency on the biological resources in charge of granting permits for the “rational and organized” exploitation of these resources.
In a statement after the adoption of the bill on biological resources (fauna and flora), during a plenary session of the Lower House, the minister said that this agency aims at organizing and rationalizing the exploitation of these resources and establishing a databank of genes.
She has also underlined the importance of the adoption of this bill aiming at “addressing the legal vacuum related to the protection of biological resources and the fight against the biological piracy."
The bill will be submitted to the Upper House for vote.
