Hamdan bin Mohammed unveils Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has instructed stakeholders to do their best to maintain Dubai’s status in the list of countries that stimulate sustainable green growth and harness Dubai’s strategic location as a prominent regional and international hub for emerging markets, finance and trade to apply and deploy green and clean technologies in a broader way. Shaikh Hamdan gave his instructions after he unveiled the ‘Dubai Green Economy Partnership” programme which seeks to spur sustainable and green growth of Dubai economy and promotes its position in global green economy value chain for green and clean technologies and sustainable consumption. Shaikh Hamdan asserted that the new programme is in harmony with Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 and the UAE Green Economy strategy launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, under the theme “Green Economy for Sustainable Development” in last January. “The new initiative will prod sustainable development in the UAE and elevate public-private sector partnership to new heights of creative collaboration,” Shaikh Hamdan added. Dubai Green Economy Partnership aims to create new commercial opportunities through facilitating smooth adoption of technological solutions with economic and ecological proven feasibility and application of best practices in optimum and economic use of resources and conservation of the environment and natural resources. The programme crowns Dubai’s strategic initiatives and achievements in introduction of environmental sustainability standards and deployment of green and clean technologies to reduce carbon fingerprint and enhance efficiency and competence of use of resources from energy, water, waste management and other applications in public transport and green buildings. The programme will boost public-private sector strategic partnership to generate new opportunities for transfer of knowledge and best practices and funding green projects which serve as living demonstration for future cities. The programme was launched at a time when research centres and investment banks forecast rapid growth in sectors of green and clean technologies and sustainable consumption and this fits well into the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership for spurring sustained growth of business sectors. Foreign Investment Office of the Dubai Economic Development Department will act as a liaison point between local, regional and international founding partners and companies interested in the programme’s local and oversees events.
