Doha will host the third preparatory Arab conference on disaster risk reduction, organized by the Arab League in cooperation with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) - Regional Office for Arab States, which will be held from April 30 to May 1.
The conference will be attended by relevant authorities from Arab countries, the U.N. and the Arab League. It will discuss the efforts made towards disaster risk reduction in preparation for the global conference on the topic, which takes place at a later time in Cancun, Mexico.
The conference is a good opportunity for Arab states to review the regional development in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, in addition to concluding the modern Arab strategy for disaster risk reduction 2030 and to agree on the timeframe and other related issues.
The first preparatory Arab conference on disaster risk reduction was held in Aqabah, Jordan in March 2013 and the second took place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in September 2014.
