Bahraini foreign minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Khalifa underscored importance of nuclear safety in the region in order to prevent radioactive leak or radioactive-related incidents that would be catastrophic on the region. Sheikh Khaled, at a news conference following a ministerial meeting between the GCC and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tuesday, said the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group would serve peace in the region. Bahrain, he added, was looking forward to achieving peace in the region and clearing it from weapons of mass destruction (WMD). He said the GCC and ASEAN signed agreements in domains of free trade, education, food security and energy. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are working to secure food security through cooperation with the ASEAN countries, while the latters wish to benefit from energy resources of the Arab Gulf states, said Sheikh Khaled. The two sides, added the Bahraini minister, agreed to hold a forum comprising the public and private sectors in Singapore.
