The Irrigation Ministry said Tuesday it has removed 687 encroachments on the Nile River.
Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi said his ministry intends to remove a total of 50,399 encroachments as part of a national campaign to save the Nile River.
The national campaign was launched by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and Moghazi on January 5.
The campaign will be conducted in all governorates without any exceptions, Moghazi stressed.
He called on violators to put state interests above all and to personally remove any encroachments before they are punished under law.
