Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy said 480,000 tons of garbage were collected in Alexandria over the past four months.
The minister gave the remarks while touring a garbage compressing plant in Zayateen district in eastern Alexandria.
The minister was accompanied by Local Development Minister Ahmed Zaki Badr and Alexandria Governor Reda Farhat.
About the accumulating garbage problem, the minister unveiled current discussions to sign a contact involving more than one partner to be responsible for collecting and recycling waste.
He expressed desire to cut down the quantity of garbage transferred to Hamam area because of the long distance and make the best use of them in recycling process.
