4.8-magnitude quake shocks Egypt

An earthquake measuring 4.8 degrees on the Richter Scale hit Egypt's Red Sea area Monday evening. The shock hit the area lying between northeast Hurghada and southwest Sharm El-Sheikh, Chief of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) Hatem Ouda said. The tremor was felt by the residents of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, he said. The epicenter of the earthquake was 5.1 km under the sea, he added. A devastating quake shocked Egypt in 1992, killing over 1,000 people and destroying many houses and buildings.
