During a seminar on energy and economic and social challenges, the minister said the units were part of a power station which was built by Orascom Construction Industries and General Electric.
As much as $746 million were invested to produce about 1,000 megawatts in Upper Egyptian governorates, the minister told the seminar attendees.
The seminar was organized by the Egyptian-Lebanese Friendship Association.
Two other units are scheduled to be operative next month, the minister said.
"During the next seven months more power plants will operate at total investments of EGP 20 billion," the minister said.
The new projects are part of a plan to attract investments in the industry, he noted.
