The Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry announced on Thursday that 1, 261 encroachments on the Nile River were removed out of more than 50,000, since launching the national campaign to protect the river.
The campaign kicked off under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi in January 5.
In statements, Moghazi said the government will strictly apply a plan to remove violations on the Nile River, adding that the campaign targets all governorates and water streams.
He further called on the violators to remove violations by themselves so as to avoid legal problems.
