A dead whale was found floating 28 kilometres off Fujairah on Thursday, fishermen said. The dead whale believed to be about 10 metres long, was spotted by a group of local fishermen while they were fishing in the Fujairah waters, Gulf News has learnt. The local fishermen attributed the cause of death of the whale to the oil spills in the area, Ahmad Ali, a fisherman, said. The whale's condition suggests it may have been dead for several days or more than a week, said Ali. Fishermen and onlookers had gathered around the dead whale after it was pulled onto the shore by fishing boats, he said. "They took pictures with the dead whale. One of the fishermen stood on it for a photo," said Ali. It is the first dead whale found here since an oil spill spread on Fujairah's sea in March, said Ali. The fishermen had reported the incident to the authorities to do the needful, he said.
