Nothing can replace carpets for comfort, and nothing is as hard as cleaning them. Cleaning products and professional carpet cleaners are sometimes needed, but you can get out many stains easily by yourself. -Whenever you are not sure how to get out carpet stains, try water first. -Use a good quality detergent. The rule of mixing would be to pour one fourth of a cup of a detergent into a gallon of warm water. Test to see if the detergent bleaches your rug on an area not readily visible, like in a closet corner, and make sure it doesn’t. -Apply the solution onto your carpet, starting from one end. This ensures that the entire area of your carpet gets detergent-treated. Wipe the fibers using a medium bristle brush. Now the stains must have almost gone. -Remove excess solution by blotting, the entire carpet with a sponge dipped in clean water. Wipe the carpet dry using a smooth white towel. -For food stains, you can use shaving cream. Apply it and let it stand for 15 minutes. Rinse it with a mixture of vinegar and water. -Use club soda, if it’s red wine. Red dyes could be removed with a mixture of clean water and peroxide, tank in the ratio 7 / 3. -Gum stuck on to the carpet will go away if you use ice cubes and scalp the crystals away. -For semi-solids, such as peanut butter, pudding and such, scrape and lift gently with a spoon. Rinse the remaining spill out and blot dry.
