Conde Nast Traveller UK has listed Six Senses Zighy Bay as one of the 20 best hotels in the world on its 2017 Gold List.
The list, which features luxury resorts from across the globe, features getaway destinations from all seven continents, with Oman’s Zighy Bay being the only Middle Eastern name on it.
“We are very happy and very proud because not only are we representing the Six Senses brand, but we are also representing Oman around the world,” said Nurhayati Mohamad, Marketing and Communications Manager for Six Senses Zighy Bay.
“We’re not just a Six Senses resort, but also an asset of Oman’s Ministry of Tourism, which will now be featured worldwide, and this is very good for business in Oman as it will help further promote the country as a tourism destination,” she told Times of Oman.
Eco-tourism
Since its inception, Six Senses Zighy Bay have always promoted sustainable tourism, and being included on this list will only help get that message out to more people.
“We are a hotel that actively promotes sustainability, and in line with the Ministry of Tourism’s eco-tourism policy, to be among the top 20 hotels in the world only helps better broadcast that message of eco-tourism,” said Nurhayati.
“Being on the forefront of sustainable eco-tourism, we are blessed to be located in Musandam, because on the one side you have the beautiful Gulf of Oman, and behind us, we’ve got the Hajar Mountains,” she added.
“Being a sustainable resort, we have tried to capture the look of the Omani villages that are around us, and only build the villas with materials that have been locally sourced,” she added. “The leaves from the palm trees and the stones from the HajarMountains are both used in our villas to reflect Omani heritage and present this to guests from all over the world, so this is something I believe is uniquely designed.
Strategic location
Located in Oman’s northern exclave of Musandam, Six Senses Zighy Bay is only a couple of hours drive, or 120 kilometres away from Dubai International airport, making it very easy for travellers who are looking to visit the resort.
“In terms of helping Oman tourism, our location is very convenient because Dubai International airport is a hub that caters to routes from all around the world,” explained Mohamad. “Being only two hours away from there helped us promote Oman very well.
“We can easily arrange for transport from Dubai, and guests can fly into Dubai very conveniently because there are multiple flights from one location that land in Dubai every day. It’s a good partnership in terms of tourism, because we are promoting Oman, and in Musandam, there are no other five-star luxury properties like us.”
Compiled by the editors of Conde Nast UK, the 20 hotels listed here fall under a variety of genres, from iconic city structures and sprawling safari camps to hole-in-the-wall houses and secretive nature reserves.
Examples of the properties included are the Hotel Crillon in Provence, France, the Jawai safari lodge in Rajasthan, India, Hotel IlPelicano in Tuscany, Italy, Berkeley Lodge in Western Australia, The Peninsula in Shanghai, Amangiri in the United States and the Carlyle Hotel in New York City.
