American singer and actress Demi Lovato will perform on the OLM Souissi stage at Mawazine 2017 on May 19, yet another widely-known name to be added to the list of international performers at this year’s festival.
A childhood idol of millenial teenagers, Lovato rose to fame in 2008 when she acted in the Disney film “Camp Rock”alongside the Jonas Brothers. The movie featured her song “This Is Me,” which ranked number nine in the Billboard Hot 100.
The success of “Camp Rock” won the actress a recording contract with Hollywood Records, and since then Lovato became a recurring name in the Hollywood film and music scene.
In 2008, Lovato released her debut album, “Don’t Forget,” which ranked number two on US billboard 200. The following year, the actress starred in the Disney’s “Sunny with a Chance”, and released another album titled “Here We Go Again”, which topped the Billboard 200 chart.
Lovato’s career continued to grow, until it was met with an abrupt pause in 2010. The actress entered a treatment center for addictions, eating disorders, and self-harm, where she was later on diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Her mental health issues did not stop the singer from pursuing her passions. After successfully completing the treatment, she released several critically acclaimed albums and singles.
She received many awards such as MTV Vio Music Award, Teen Choice Awards, five People Choice Awards, ALMA Award, Latin American Music Award, and a Grammy nomination.
To date, Lovato has also become a spokeswoman of body image awareness, substance abuse issues, and mental health issues.
