Thunderstorms and hail are expected today and the Directorate General of Meteorology (DG of Met) advised residents to take precautions.
Yesterday, several parts of Oman witnessed light drizzle to heavy rain which caused wadis to overflow and streets to flood.
“Partly cloudy skies of the Northern governorates with chances of isolated rain and mainly clear skies over the rest of the Sultanate with chances of late night to early morning low level clouds or fog patches over Al Wusta and Dhofar,” said the DG of Met in a tweet.
“Chances of convective cloud formations and isolated rain and occasional thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains associated with hail and winds towards the afternoon may extend to the coastal areas of Oman Sea,” the tweet added.
Amid the unstable weather, the DG of Met issued advisories to minimize and prevent potential dangers during thunderstorms.
They advised people to follow weather reports on television or social media to get the latest information.
“Immediately find shelter in the nearest building or car and do not stand under isolated trees, electricity and telephone poles. Do not use your phone unless absolutely necessary,” advised the DG of Met.
“Always keep a fire extinguisher close by in case of a fire and stay away from windows,” they added.
They also advised people to stay away from high ground such as hills and advised against people lying on the ground outside during a thunderstorm as it increases your chances of being struck by lightning.
