Most parts of Spain can expect a summer with higher than average temperatures and lower than average rainfall according to data published by the Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET) on Tuesday.
At a press conference to present the agency's predictions for the summer, AEMET spokesperson Ana Casals said that although it was very hard to predict the number of heat waves which would affect Spain, the summer would be "dry and hot," with the exception of the far north-west, which could expect temperatures to remain at their normal levels for the time of year.
Casals added that it was also likely that rainfall would be "below normal levels," when compared to the average for the years 1981-2010.
The summer of 2016 follows a spring which AEMET considers to have been "cool" with an average temperature of 13.1 degrees centigrade, 0.5 percent below the average for 1981-2010 making it the third coldest spring of the 21st century.
