Egyptian actor Ashraf El-Sharakawi has told Arabstoday of his “happiness” to be part of television drama Al-Muntaqem (The Revenge) currently being shown on MBC Misr. El-Sharkawi plays the role of Nashaat El-Hilali , the Deputy Public Prosecutor, a friend of the protagonist Omar played by Amr Yussef. After being trained as a fencer by Amr, El-Hilali joined the police academy to work as an officer until he was injured in a drugs bust. El-Sharkawi told Arabstoday that his character then starts working as a prosecuting attorney, running into Omar at work one day. The meeting becomes a turning point in his life, as his old fencing coach helps him on his path to revenge. The actor revealed to Arabstoday that the as-yet-unaired episodes hold a major surprise. The TV drama stars also stars Sameh el-Sereity, Hureya Farghali, Ahmed al-Saadani, Walid Fawaz and Inass Kamel. The story is by Hesham Hilal with a script written by Sherif Badr ed-Dine. The series is directed by Hatem Ali and Ahmed Fawzi. El-Sharkawi’s previous appearances include TV series El-Dali and Gareema Fil Sahel El-Shamali (Crime on the North Coast). El-Sharkawi is currently awaiting the start of rehearsals for his new stage role in Elli Khayef Yerawwah (If You Can’t Stand the Heat). The Comic Theatre production is directed by Sabri Fawaz.
