Ryan O’Shaughnessy first came to our attention at the end of March, when he appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and performed totes emosh song No Name. The 19-year-old from Dublin explained: “It’s [the song] called No Name…It’s about a friend of mine that I’ve liked for a few years now.” He melted the judges (and our) hearts as Alesha Dixon told him: “That was really sweet and sincere, I just really enjoyed it and I felt it, it was very lovely." Simon Cowell was sure the love song was going to win over No Name, telling the singer: “If that doesn’t work nothing will. You sure you don’t want to give me the name?” Watch the performance here. Ryan got four yeses from the judges but remained tight-lipped over No Name – well, until she Tweeted and revealed her identity: Katie Lucia Keegan. Sadly Katie insisted she just wanted “to be good friends.” Awwwww, how could she?! We’ll get to that part later. At one point in the competition, it looked like Ryan may have been out of the running as he was tied to a deal with Universal Ireland after appearing on The Voice, but thanks to some negotiations, he was set free and able to perform in the semi-final. Phew. He once again wowed with a heartfelt performance of a self-penned track, this time called First Kiss. Watch it here, it’s pretty wonderful. And the judges once again showed Ryan the love, with David Walliams telling him: “You are a major talent. You come on to the stage, you’ve done another original song. You know this girl who won’t go out with you? She’s doing you a favour cause you are writing the most beautiful songs for her.” Ryan clearly impressed BGT fans too as he won the viewers’ vote through to the final, much to his shock and delight. There was further shock to come when he appeared on Britain’s Got More Talent and Katie, i.e. No Name, called in to congratulate him on his performance. Does that signify a glimmer of hope for young Ryan in the romance stakes? Watch the video of the moment and find out. Ryan has attracted a host of celebrity fans, with Jedward and Louis Walsh singing his praises and Denise Van Outen and Emily Atack gushing about his star quality. One Direction hottie Louis Tomlinson is also a big Ryan fan! But has he got what it takes to take the top spot and be crowned BGT 2012 champ? We’ll find out on Saturday May 12 from 7.30pm. We can’t wait.
