TNT says it has renewed its action-adventure series The Last Ship for a 13-episode, third season to air next summer.
Based on William Brinkley's popular novel, the show stars Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin as people trying to survive a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world's population.
"Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoided falling victim to the devastating tragedy, forcing Captain Chandler, XO Slattery and the ship's crew [to] confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the few remaining survivors," a synopsis said.
The cast also includes Travis Van Winkle, Charles Parnell, Christina Elmore, Marissa Neitling, John Pyper Ferguson and Jocko Sims. The series is produced by Platinum Dunes, with its partners -- blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- serving as executive producers.
